Back in high school, I had a friend who liked hockey. I ended up as a fan of the LA Kings. However, back when I could follow hockey things didn't go too well for the Kings. One year nearly half the season was eaten up by a lockout. Another year, the Kings made it to the Stanley Cup finals, to lose to Calgary. And, to top it off, I remember Canada beating the US in the Olympics.

All the time my father, who was raised in Raymond, Alberta Canada (down the road from Calgary) was a little too smug. The strange part was that he didn't even like hockey! He'd still walk around the house with that little smirk on his face as if to say "ha, ha, Calgary beat the Kings."

Well, last night, the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Edmonton Oilers in game seven of the Stanley Cup finals (Edmonton is even closer to Raymond than Calgary). Yep, a Southern hockey team not only gave Edmonton a run for its money, but actually took the Cup from them.

Well, Dad, how do you like them apples?
