Coyote looks more and more like somebody I want to meet in person. And the Rubik's Cube solver is cool too.

I used to be a bank teller, and in fact I was once responsible for our branch's ATM. This story is a bit alarming.

Our ATM worked much differently. Nearly all maintenence was done in a locked room behind the ATM. We had a special ATM card that turned the ATM off and printed out a report, and then we would go into the locked room to make sure there was enough receipt tape, envelopes, etc. Telling the ATM what kind of money was in the box could only be done through a special computer in that locked room, not by anybody knowing the password.

Paige and I bought the book version of The Princess Bride, and I had always wondered about that reunion scene.

Interesting article about global warming. Unfortunately, the article never says what Professor Gray teaches at Colorado State. A little googling turned up a page at Wikipedia that has a link to his faculty page at the university.

The best part about this is that one of the foremost experts on hurricanes -- somebody who "pioneered the concept of 'seasonal' hurricane forecasting -- predicting months in advance the severity of the coming hurricane season" -- doesn't agree with Al Gore about global warming and Katrina. OK, Gore doesn't say "Katrina" but he sure hints at it.

Which do you believe?

I'm not the only one who has trouble getting a point across.

I have three sisters, and two of them like to tease me about introducing myself as clearly as I could when I was a kid. Something like "Max, big boy not girl, strong not weak, Edward Lybbert." There was a lot more to that twenty-or-so years ago, but I've forgotten it. My third sister isn't any nicer than the other two; she just wasn't born when I was doing that.

Anyhow, the last part of Scott Adams' post reminds me of that("Now I realize I have to change. In the old days I would say, for example, 'It’s raining.' In the future I will say, 'It is raining right now, right here, outside and not inside. ...'"). Not that I've got a comic or anything.

Back when I wrote about the database problem, I couldn't find the link I really wanted to use. I just found it. The same guy also has a page about Amazon's technical questions for website design.

He has several non-technical write-ups about the human side of things. And he's got a few about the behind the scenes stuff that has us all spoiled.

By the way, he's the guy behind Findory.

I wish I had seen this earlier.
